The United States is home to around 3.5–4 million Muslims, roughly 1.1% of its 335-million population — one of the most diverse Muslim communities in the world. Historically, the community includes both African-American Muslims with roots in the early twentieth-century Nation of Islam and broader Sunni tradition (a community shaped by figures like Malcolm X and Imam Warith Deen Mohammed) and large immigrant communities of Arab, South Asian, West African, Iranian, Turkish, Albanian, and Bosnian heritage. Major contemporary religious infrastructure includes the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and the Fiqh Council of North America. Most American mosques publish prayer times using either the ISNA (Fajr/Isha 15°/15°) or Muslim World League method. The US spans six standard time zones from UTC-5 (Eastern) to UTC-10 (Hawaii–Aleutian).
