The Qibla from Jakarta points toward the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. Makkah is approximately 7,920 km along the great-circle path. Orient your prayer space so it faces this bearing before performing Salah.
Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority country — home to roughly 240 million Muslims, about 87% of the national population. The greater Jakarta metropolitan area on the northwest coast of Java holds more than 30 million people, and the city itself is the political, financial, and religious centre of the archipelago. Its most iconic mosque, the Istiqlal Mosque completed in 1978, is the largest in Southeast Asia and was deliberately built across the street from Jakarta Cathedral as a national symbol of religious coexistence; further west, Masjid Sunda Kelapa near the old harbour district uses a distinctively Indonesian architectural style with no dome or minaret. Prayer times in Indonesia are issued by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), whose calculation uses Fajr 20° and Isha 18° and is followed by mosques nationwide; many Indonesian Muslims follow the Shafi'i school of jurisprudence. Jakarta is on Western Indonesia Time (WIB, UTC+7) and, sitting just 6° south of the equator, has remarkably stable prayer times year-round.
Prayer times shift gradually throughout the year as the sun's position changes. Read about the 10+ supported calculation methods and the astronomical math behind the schedule.
