ABOUT

About Kuwait.

Kuwait, at the head of the Persian Gulf with a population of around 4.3 million, is constitutionally an Islamic state and one of the small Gulf countries whose modern wealth derives from oil. Kuwaiti citizens make up roughly a third of the population, with the remainder drawn from across South Asia and the wider Arab world. The population is predominantly Sunni and follows the Maliki and Hanbali schools of jurisprudence, with a sizeable Shia minority of around 30% of Kuwaiti citizens — one of the larger Shia communities in the Gulf outside Bahrain and the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The Grand Mosque of Kuwait City, completed in 1986 with capacity for 10,000 worshippers, is the country's principal state mosque. Prayer times are commonly calculated using the Muslim World League or Umm al-Qura method, both of which the Kuwait Ministry of Awqaf uses. Kuwait observes Arabia Standard Time (UTC+3) without daylight saving.

CALCULATION

Prayer calculation in Kuwait.

Prayer times in Kuwait are calculated using the Kuwait method by default. For Asr, the standard convention is applied — Asr begins when the shadow of an object equals its length. You can switch to the Hanafi convention (2× shadow) on any city page. Fajr begins at astronomical twilight when the sun is below the horizon, and Isha begins after the red twilight has fully disappeared from the sky.
